Hi Curlies,
Just wanted to give you all my thoughts on Miss Jessie’s Coily Custard for wash and go styling. I will most likely do a demo of using it on the Youtube channel at some point as well as I do the raking method and it only takes me 5 mins to apply it after putting on my leave in!
My regimen this time:
- Cowash Cleanser – Tresemme Naturals Nourishing Moisture Conditioner (trying to use this up>>.won’t be a repurchase…)
- Leave In Conditioner – Shea Moisture African Black Soap Balancing Conditioner
- Styler / Gel – Miss Jessie’s Coily Custard
Because I didn’t want to do anything too crazy and I wanted to see the performance of Miss Jessie’s Coily Custard>>>I decided to cowash my hair and use a light leave in and then just the styler. I skipped the oil this time for that purpose. I used to have an issue with product performance when cowashing when I didn’t know what I was doing in the past. However, cowashing works great for me now because I use mostly natural products and I tend not to have a lot of buildup to wash away anyway.
I really do not like defined wash and go’s rather I prefer fluffy slightly defined wash and go’s and that is totally what this product has provided me. I hate gel casts hence why I stray from most gels. I know you can scrunch the crunch but why when you don’t have to! Another thing I don’t like is ramen noodle looking curls! I don’t mind clumped curls but I don’t want my hair to look stringy but I prefer it to be more chunky!
See ingredients below.
Ingredients – Miss Jessie’s Coily Custard (CVS, Curlmart.com, Target – 8.5 oz – $13-$14) – Water (Aqua), Glycerin, Hydrolyzed Corn Starch, Polysorbate 20, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Xanthan Gum, Chondrus Crispus (Carrageenan), Pectin, Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Fragrance, Diazolidinyl Urea, Agave American Leaf Extract
The ingredients are decent and there is nothing too alarming.
Price – The price is reasonable for Miss Jessie’s with products mostly over $15 in general! The price is decent for me.
Smell – This smells like fabric softener. It’s a not a deal breaker but at least it’s not lemons or something which I assumed it would smell like because of the yellow packaging.
Physical – The product consistency is clear and similar to the consistency of well that stuff they put on fruit tarts at Whole Foods. I’m sorry that’s the best way I can describe it.
Application – The product was great when applied to damp hair (not soaking wet hair) which I think assisted with making my wash and go appear longer with a lot less shrinkage. However, if you leave the product on your dry hands then it will be sticky. I was able to finger rake this product through my hair with no issues as far as any knotting. Application took me five minutes after applying my leave in. The product dried in a reasonable amount of time>>>like 3 hrs maybe but my roots were still damp about 10 hours later which is normal for my wash and go.
Performance – My hair was soft, fluffy and moisturized which is all I ask of my wash and go’s! The hold to me would be about medium hold. There was no flaking during the three to four days that the product was in my hair! My second day hair was even better! I had big fluffy hair! The third day was oh my goodness! This is how I have been wanting my hair to look for a very long time>>> healthy with lots of volume! I think I will be taking a break from the twist outs for a minute because I am in love with my hair! To maintain my wash and go, I just put a little oil on my hands and do maintenance twists>>>this is the best method that works for me as far as maintaining the style’s shape and I had no issue with loss in shape or hold.
Will I buy it again? I will totally repurchase this as there were absolutely no flakes in my hair and my hair was super soft and moisturized with the product combo still on day 2 and day 3. My only issue is accessibility>>>I don’t see this in too many stores and randomly saw 2 of them at my local CVS so I just grabbed it but I can always order it from Curlmart.com of course bundled with some other goodies as I wouldn’t just order this and pay lots of shipping.
